Samsung giving $1M to Manor Education

The money will endow a scholarship fund for the Manor Education Foundation, a nonprofit that supports the Manor Independent School District. Samsung will award the money during an evening ceremony May 18 to celebrate the Manor High School awards. Three students will also receive laptops and printers donated by Samsung, the world's largest maker of computer chips.

In April, the company gave final approval to a multi-billion dollar investment in a new Austin plant, expected to create 900 high-paying jobs in the region. Samsung already is spending $500 million to upgrade its existing Austin semiconductor plant, which opened in 1998 and employs 1,250.
