Albertson's closing 10 Central Texas stores

With its purchase by a group of investment firms completed June 2, the newly formed Albertson's LLC announced Tuesday it would shed 30 stores described as "under-performing" in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma, including 10 in Central Texas.

On Friday, a Supervalu Inc.-led investor group completed its acquisition of more than 1,100 Albertsons grocery stores for nearly $16 billion.

The stores being closed haven't turned a profit in several years, the company says. And while the stores make up 16 percent of Albertsons' stores in the three-state region, they accounted for just 9 percent of the region's sales over the last year.

The stores will close by early August. Albertson's is working to place sales associates from the shuttered stores at nearby stores.

- 610 N. Austin Ave., Georgetown
- 1601 W. Pecan St., Pflugerville
- 220 Interstate 35 North, Round Rock
